The originator of dry batteries was born in the mid-19th century. In 1860, George Leclanche of France invented the carbon-zinc battery, which was easier to manufacture, and the initial wet aqueous electrolyte was gradually replaced by a viscous paste-like method, so when it was placed in a container, the “dry” battery appeared. In 1887, the British Wilhelm Hellesen invented the earliest dry battery. Compared with liquid batteries, the electrolyte of dry batteries is in a paste state, which will not leak and is easy to carry, so it has been widely used.

Today, dry batteries have developed into a large family with more than 100 types. Common ones include ordinary zinc-manganese dry batteries, alkaline zinc-manganese dry batteries, magnesium-manganese dry batteries, etc. However, the earliest invented carbon-zinc battery is still the most widely used type of modern dry batteries. In the continuous development of dry battery technology, new problems have emerged. People have found that although dry batteries are easy to use and cheap, they are useless after use and cannot be reused. In addition, since metals are used as raw materials, it is easy to waste raw materials, and discarded batteries will also cause environmental pollution.
